چکیده

APRESSURE recorded through a cardiac catheter wedged tightly in a small . pulmonary artery has been referred to as a "capillary," "venous" or "wedge" pressure. On the other hand, a pressure recorded through a cardiac catheter wedged into a pulmonary vein during thoracotomy and in intact animals has been referred to as a pulmonary venous wedge pressure'. Some investigators have found good correlation between the mean pulmonary arterial wedge pressure and the mean left atrial pressure in man and other animals; others have found great variability. A thorough analysis of the data and methods of each group of investigators reveals differences in technics with which the data were obtained, and in methods of statistical analyses. The purpose of this study was to show the relationship between pulmonary arterial wedge pressure and mean left atrial pressure on the one hand, and the pulmonary venous wedge pressure and mean pulmonary arterial pressure on the other. Determinations were made in normal dogs with the thorax open so that catheters could be placed precisely in the desired position.

THE EFFECTS OF CAPTOPRIL ON PULMONARY AND SYS TEMIC ARTERIAL PRESSURES IN HIGHALTITUDE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effect of captopril on both systemic (P.a) and pulmonary arterial pressures (PPA) in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Seventeen patients (mean age 44±6.8 years) with HAPH and mild to moderate systemic arterial hypertension were included in the study. All patients underwent right heart catheterization with measurem...

The pulmonary pressures in pulmonary venous obstruction.

The contour of the pulmonary artery wedge pressure tracing in a case of pulmonary venous obstruction was unique and may be diagnostic. Wedged pressures were obtained in both a pulmonary artery and a pulmonary vein on recatheterization of a 5-yearold boy with total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage to the superior vena cava on whom an anastomosis of the confluence of the pulmonary veins to the...

The Relationship of Pulmonary Venous Wedge

A comparison of pressure levels and pressure-time relationships in pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and pulmonary venous wedge pressure (PVWP) tracings was made from cardiac catheterization records of 60 patients, aged 1 day to 16 years. In 50 patients with normal or low PAP's there was close correlation between systolic, diastolic, and mean pressures in the two sites. In all 10 patients with pu...

Haemodynamic effects of a new inotropic agent (dobutamine) in chronic cardiac failure.

The haemodynamic effects of dobutamine were studied in 14 patients with chronic congestive cardiac failure. Heart rate, central venous, pulmonary arterial, pulmonary wedge, and aortic pressures, aortic dp/dt, cardiac output, cardiac index, stroke volume, and pulmonary and systemic vascular resistances were measured or derived. Dose-response curves were obtained by recording all measurements bef...

Effects of blood flow and left atrial pressure on pulmonary venous resistance.

• The contribution of the pulmonary venous system to the pulmonary vascular resistance has been a subject of increasing interest." The pulmonary veins are sometimes considered to consist of wide inactive vessels; however, histological studies have revealed a layer of smooth muscle in these veins, especially at their junction with the left atrium. The veins may also respond histologieally by ven...
